![]() ![]() There seems to be an argument, that under no circumstance can a female (preteen or otherwise) be pictured wearing or doing things of their own voluntary ability, because it may be appealing to an audience which you are not apart of (the japanese anime niche market)? IE, children or females in anything but 'modest' attire performing mundane tasks should not exist in any media anywhere?įrom what I can tell, the actions and decisions of the characters mentioned in this thread are all voluntary by them *and as part of the universe of the show, are not in a sexual context* as per the how they were designed by the author, be their choice of clothing (or lack thereof), or other matter-of-course events (punishments). It's completely out of place considering the rest of the show. I was about to also mention Kokkoku, but then remembered the ending sequence panning over an adult woman in her underwear, which is emblematic of the issue in general. This season has been fantastic for shows like that. In response to the blanket "All anime is pedo trash" statements I'm seeing, this season alone I can point to: Cardcaptor Sakura, Hakumei and Mikochi, Mitsuboshi Colours, How to Keep a Mummy, A Place Further Than The Universe and YuruCamp as good shows, several of which star teenage girls, with no sexualisation at all. There aren't many shows that are that ridiculous, but they definitely exist. ![]() That was enough to make me drop the show there and then. Meanwhile, the season just finishing had a show where a 9 year old girl gets naked for a bath in the first episode, and then there is a scene where the 16 year old male protagonist falls over into a compromising situation with her. I'm not going to link an image in case, but it's easy enough to find. There is cultural context here, and the scene does not have close ups or leering shots of the girls. My Neighbour Totoro, for example, has a scene where the girls (aged 11 and 4) bathe with their dad, and nobody decries this scene as an example of the sexualisation of children, because it isn't. There is certainly a lot to criticise when it comes to sexualisation in anime, but when talking about bathing scenes in particular, I wish people considered context and direction a bit more. On the other hand, the Japanese are probably so used to this sexualization stuff now that it doesn't faze them (not that it's a good thing), yet games and shows will censor extremely violent things. Westerners are desensitized to violence in their games and shows, yet seeing a child naked on a show would cause outrage. It's funny because I'm sure it's just a matter of culture and being desensitized to things. The only thing I personally had an issue with was the author's seeming fetish for the main character wetting herself. In no case was she actually sexualized, with slow pans over her body, closeups of her ass, or revealing outfits. ![]() ![]() They question their sexuality (like boners) and do stupid things like run around naked. I personally don't see any issue with the examples you listed, because they're children. Seeing a child naked doesn't really seem as disturbing from an Asian perspective. Hell, I have an old video by my parents of me and my cousins taking a bath together nude from when I was like 6 or 7. Children being naked is something you're going to see. In Asian culture, it is incredibly common for kids of a young age to bathe together naked, often even with other children and relatives. Click to shrink. The West is so caught up about people being accused of being pedophiles that they can't even enjoy children being children anymore without being emotionally disturbed. ![]()
